Too Blessed to be Stressed!
Years ago, I Pastored First Baptist Church of Madisonville. At least once a week I would see this older lady walking around the town square. She said to me one day. “When I can’t get to my church, I watch you on Television”. (Our Morning and Evening Services could be viewed on the local cable access channel- Channel 4) I remember telling her that I hope I did not break her TV. Every time I would see her, I would ask how she was doing. Her response was always, “Pastor Charles, I’m too Blessed to be Stressed!”
What an inspirational statement. When you have Jesus in your heart you are blessed. We are always “Too Blessed to be Stressed!”
I know in our lives we get stressed out. Someone said a “Zebra is a Horse that is Stressed Out.” Dr. David Stroop has said that stress has replaced other infections as the number one terminal disease. Our stress has led us to distress. It has been said that you know you are stressed when:
• You start talking to your plants- for advice
• You order crushed Tagamet on your frozen yogurt
• You wake up at 3:00 a.m. and start working on your income taxes…in July
• Your dog posts a sign that says, “Beware of Humans.”
I am sure there are many more.
The answer for stress comes from an invitation from Jesus, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.“ Matthew 11:28/ Notice Christ says He will give you Rest and not Stress.
THIS SUNDAY!
I look forward in seeing you Sunday. Sunday Morning, we will sing and enjoy message from quest speaker from the Gideon’s Ministry.
