The Power of a Whisper!
“Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it.’ ” Isaiah 30:21
Raised in a large family it could get quite noisy. A whisper could not be heard at our house. I remember school teachers telling us to whisper. In church when you would sit with your buddies you had to whisper.
*I remember watching the Horse Whisperer Movie that starred Robert Redford. The Power of a whisper. As we go through these difficult days, I need to hear the Power of God’s Whisper.
How can that be possible? “Be still and know that I am God.” Psalm 46:10
“Samuel! Samuel!” the Lord called, to which Samuel replied on cue, “Speak, for your servant is listening.” That was after several times that Samuel heard the voice of God and told Eli. Finally, Eli told Samuel if that happens again say this: “Speak, for your servant is listening.” God did speak again and Samuel listened.
“Listen” is found 331 times and the majority of these passages in some way deal with listening to the Lord. “Hear” is found 347 times and again, many of these also have to do with hearing God’s Word.
Psalm 46:10 tells us, “Be still and know that I am God.” It is interesting in what is going on in Psalm 46:1-3, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, though the earth give way and the mountains fall into the heart of the sea, though its waters roar and foam and the mountains quake with their surging.” In a Storm the Psalmist says, “Be Still and know that I am God.” Be still to hear the Lord’s Whisper. When you are still listening then you will know that I am God. You will hear my whisper. Psalm 46:11 says that then you will know that “HE is with us and He is our Refuge.” Thank God for what is past, and trust Him for what is to come.
I am sure you have heard that the same letters in the word, SILENT are also the same letters in the word, LISTEN. Lord let us be like Samuel and say to your whisper, “Speak for Your Servant Hears…” “Oh! give me Samuel’s ear, An open ear, O Lord, Alive and quick to hear Each whisper of Thy Word; Like him to answer to Thy call And to obey Thee first of all.”– Van Solen
