Stir Up the Flame!

Many years ago, our “hand-me-down” 1982 Honda Lawnmower broke down on the Jericho Road.  It had gone the “Last Mile of the Way!” After the funeral of the lawnmower, Nancy & I went and bought an inexpensive Wal Mart Special for 129.00. It worked like a top for the first two years.  I would prime it, pull the rope and it would run for a whole 30 seconds.  What was wrong?  If you know anything about me, you know that I am not mechanically inclined.  I do know something about an “air filter” and a “spark plug.” I looked at the air filter and it was dirty in the worst way.  I took the spark plug out and it was bad off.  I went off to K-Mart (that shows you that was a long time ago because K-Mart went out of business several years ago) and bought a new spark plug and air filter, came home and replaced the old with the new…pulled the rope and the mower purred like a kitten.

What is the lesson of this experience?  “If you buy a Wal Mart lawnmower, then remember to replace it with parts from the Kmart.” No. Through this experience, God gave me a spiritual lesson.  In our spiritual life we are busy and live in a sin filled society.  We are surrounded constantly by the worldly things that can stop up our spiritual filter and cause us to lose the spark of the Holy Spirit. We need to get that spark back and ask God to purify the filter of our minds.  How do we do this?  Paul has the answer: “So here is what I want you to do, God helping you: take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life-and place it before God as an offering.  Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for Him.  Don’t become so well adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking.  Instead, fix your attention on God.  You’ll be changed from the inside out.  Readily recognize what He wants from you, and quickly respond to it.  Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.”  Romans 12:1-2 (The Message)

We are gearing up for more outreach activities for CFC.  Stay tuned.

You are a great family to serve with.

May God bless all of us and increase our territory and keep His hand on us!
